On last Tuesday, an industrial and instructional meeting of breeders took place in Bobolice, nearby Mieszałki where we have our collection centre. The conference entitled “Good breeding practices – importance and principles of animal welfare.”
Among invited guests were breeders from surrounding grounds, the District Veterinary Inspector, a representative of ZODR in Baszkowice and a representative of feed production company DeHaus. The whole meeting was coordinated by Adriana Rogosz – central purchasing office manager at OSI POLAND FOODWORKS.
The first part of the training discussed by Zdzislaw Kalupa – the District Veterinary Physician from Szczecinek – covered the subject of humane treatment of animal and cleanliness of the cattle on their way to a slaughterhouse. Afterwards, his deputy Magdalena Soroczyńska discussed emergency slaughter outside of a slaughterhouse and slaughter for personal use at a farm.
The last speaker was the expert of cattle at DeHaus Marcin Krygera. In his presentation entitled “Cows’ signals” speaker took a closer look at basic behaviours and needs of cattle, and also described multidimensionality of cattle welfare.
Such meetings with breeders pose a perfect opportunity to discuss many issues of cattle market and animal breeding. Participants were actively taking part in the meeting, making use of knowledge and experience of each other. We believe the information exchange would be useful in practice causing further improvements in animal welfare practices.
